a challenging position has arisen for a mechanical (or structural) engineer to work on the installation design of offshore rov launch systems. candidates will be based in aberdeen and will support and or maybe involved in supervising these installations at our various offshore sites around the world. ideally candidates should have gained basic engineering experience in either a mechanical or structural discipline, experience directly related to the rov industry is not necessarily essential as training and development will be considered to those candidates from out with the rov industry. candidates should be able to display enthusiasm and an ability to learn about offshore engineering, especially the different types of rov launch systems. this is an excellent and exciting opportunity for a qualified engineer to join a dynamic high technology environment, where they will develop their engineering skills within the offshore industry and rov industry.main duties & responsibilities:undertake responsibility for the production of, and co-ordination of installation drawings, and fabrication drawings. the installation drawings will be installation general arrangements of the vessel, or rig deck, showing our launch system equipment items. the fabrication drawings will be any steelwork items that we require in addition to our equipment, e.g. launch towers, moonpool doors etc. assist in the installation mobilisation / demobilisation of the vessels to ensure that launch system equipment is fastened correctly in accordance with engineering drawings , and that all the equipment is handled in the correct manner. mechanical insight in: - being able to relate offshore operating conditions with equipment specs e.g. pulling power of winches, understanding how launch system aids such as go-devils work, understanding how the spooling mechanisms on winch's can be modified to accommodate different umbilical diameters etc. production of the installation, and load test procedures relating to the overall general arrangement. production of structural calculations which verify the integrity of the launch systems fastened onto the vessel, or rig. this includes knowledge of vessel structure, dnv / lloyds codes, vessel motion behaviour, wave motion behaviour etc. . support and contribute towards the hseq performance within the team and in support of overall company objectives.
technical: well developed fundamental mechanical / structural engineering skills and familiarity with industry recognised engineering software self -management
qualifications and educationgeneral education: role typically requires an undergraduate degree in an either a mechanical or structural engineering discipline. however candidates in possession of other qualifications coupled with relevant experience within the rov industry maybe considered
experiencegeneral experience: offshore design experience is an advantage technical experience: basic knowledge of hydraulic circuit diagrams, force diagrams and use of structural analysis programs. familiarity with launch system equipment e.g. winch's etc., industry recognised engineering software, relevant codes of practice are an advantage as is experience of working with rov's self-management experience ability to prioritise and organise multiple projects/packages
specific job related requirementsphysical capabilities: the position is office based therefore no manual handling issues are envisaged, however candidates will be required to attend offshore based work sites, whereby the working conditions will be more of an industrial environment location mobility: the position is onshore based position within an office environment. however, candidates maybe required to visit client's premises on a regular basis as part of project meetings or undertake short ad-hoc offshore site visits to project locations globally
